Spending a few minutes this morning defending my work from an artist who says I stole his style. "My friends pointed it out to me." Have your friends also point out Jim Davis, Andy Jenkins, Dink & Duff comics, Watterson, Cy Twombly, Rime and any graffiti artist from the & #39;90s https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="😆" title="LĂ€chelndes Gesicht mit geöffnetem Mund und fest verschlossenen Augen" aria-label="Emoji: LĂ€chelndes Gesicht mit geöffnetem Mund und fest verschlossenen Augen">
Before you go calling artists/brands out for stealing from you, first consider: 1) Did you grow up in the same era, with the same influences? 2) You didn& #39;t invent it either. You& #39;re all probably referencing/channeling the same thing.
3) And, let& #39;s say someone did unapologetically steal a design or style from you. First, remember that you are bigger than any one design or style. So, F & #39;em. They& #39;ll always be one step behind you. But, more importantly, Tracers may win in the meantime,...
but if they don& #39;t find their voice, they won& #39;t sustain. Real recognize real. TIME WILL TELL. After almost 20 years of doing this, quietly watching brands/artists who directly bit or ripped from us and never evolved (I rarely say anything), they& #39;re gone now. Keep your head down.
lastly, 4) Be humble. You copied also. You stole, I stole. Every artist and designer begins by being inspired by somebody else. The successful ones find their own voice. But nothing new is under the sun. It& #39;s all been done before. Don& #39;t get it twisted. You& #39;re not that tite.
