Form of Government
Ch. 1, §2 (the Church)

- Jesus erected the Church.
- He erected it in this world.
- It’s for gathering and perfecting the saints.
- It’s Jesus’ visible kingdom of grace.
- It’s one and the same in all ages.

The above is about what the 1645 Westminster Form of Government called “the general church visible”, to which Christ gave the “ministry, oracles, and ordinances of the New Testament ...for the gathering and perfecting of it in this life, until his second coming.”

BCO 8-1 speaks “not of the Church as it is to be in the final consummation, nor of the Church as it now is in heaven as well as earth”, but of the VISIBLE CHURCH.
