1/ Sharing a frustration that I'm working through -- one that I think many mobbing/bullying targets have experienced:

My organization/field is beginning to acknowledge the existence of a destructive and pervasive cultural problem: harassment, abuse, bullying, and mobbing.
2/ But that acknowledgement is coming because more of them have now become targets; they are experiencing the professional & personal devastation of this behavior.
3/ Some who are now speaking out against this behavior are the people who piled on against me, spewing or signal-boosting vile, untrue, snarky attacks at me without doing the appropriate research to check the facts. They uncritically assumed, "If he said it, it must be true."
4/ I deeply appreciate the two sincere apologies I've received. But we need more:

When people finally call out this behavior, their criticism of it can't be limited to certain targets or categories of targets; they must make clear that NO ONE should be treated this way.
5/ If more people had spoken up a few years ago, if fewer people had been passive bystanders or had colluded with the bullies, our field would not be in the predicament it's currently in.

And the same is true for ALL organizations. Don't wait until it's you who is the target.
6/ I want to preserve my optimism that things can change, share my years of research identifying possible interventions, and sustain my desire to help make those things happen.

But damn, on some days the hurt is louder than the grace.
