The latest Phil Mushnick column merely highlights the hypocrisy that Latino ball players fight.
Gleyber Torres gives and interview in English and has his English ridiculed.
Gary Sanchez uses an interpreter and has his intelligence questioned.

In 2003 Latino stars threatened a brief boycott against the @AP after a Chicago AP reporter quoted Sammy Sosa in a way that made him sound ignorant. Sosa was trying to be helpful and accessible in a second language. The players vowed to speak only in Spanish to the AP.

When asked to comment about the issue, the then @AP sports editor refused to comment and then then complained to my editor because we had the nerve to write a story asking how the AP treated Latino players. Phil is outward in his feelings for Black and Latinos. But he’s not alone

It’s institutional. The @APSE_sportmedia and other media groups must do better. Imagine running stories that consistently misspell players’ names. That’s what happens in baseball coverage daily when outlets don’t use the ñ. I could go on, but the folks who should care don’t.
