Going to document the list of state/police abuses on laborers/student activists in Tamil nadu from a book. Some passages are extremely harrowing but it comes later. Thread.
Police violence against agricultural laborers in 1968 in Thanjavur. The Kilvenmani massacre is well known but it isn't the only thing that happened.
Murders PRECEDING Venmani and Venmani
TN govt listening to SICCI and making 'suitable' 'amendments' in its policies to attract capitalists. Read more on the 'amendments' here.
"Not for once but for the umpteenth time, Karunanidhi’s police rushed to Valparai in aid of Birla and Kothari, as it had rushed ever so often in the past to Wimco, to Neyveli, to Thanjavur, to Simpson, to Avadi . ."
Attack on V.P. Chintan allegedly done by the goons of the ruling party.
The author mentions three enquiries into police atrocities here and states there are "countless other instances where the government could not be pressured into instituting enquiries."
"M.G. Ramachandran has always admired Indira Gandhi; openly during the Emergency and not so openly thereafter. She was what he wanted to be — a dictator with brains." TVS strike, the strike of busmen, etc. and even DMK met with violence.

"The arrested busmen were remanded
to custody and the government opposed bail to them even after the strike was called off. Explained MGR, ‘I want them to have some time to think calmly where their leaders have landed them." shows what a 'calm' autocrat he is. But I chose this story to share.
Murder of Seeralan (from EPW) is one article everyone should read. I can't stress it enough.
"‘Sir, please don’t do that. She is three months pregnant.’ The officer was most reassuring: ‘Don’t worry. If she aborts the stinking Naxalite foetus we will give her a police baby.’
The Story of Nagammal too is a must read for a number of reasons.
End of thread. Will write a post on the book after I finish reading it and will be recommending everyone to read it as well.
