Nagas, the trible people are the original inhabitants of India, who ruled vast parts of the sub continents as small kingdoms between 2000 BCE to 500 CE
During Vedic period, they converted into Jainism & Buddhism
1. Rigveda considers them as despised people. Indra persecuted them
2. In 1400 BCE, Indra persecuted them & killed Vajra, a Naga king
3. Around 1750 BCE Arjuna burnt their cities & Khandarva forest
4. Kuru Kingdoms waged war against Takshaka, king of Naga tribes
5. Sixteen Mahajanapadas who fought along with Gauravas in Kurukshetra war are Nagas
6. These 16 Mahajanapadas such as Anga, Avanti, Chetys, Gandhara, Mallar, Kamboja, Magadha etc kingdoms covered till Vindhya region and beyond
7. All these tribes were defeated by Hindu kingdoms such as Maurya & Gupta
8. The later Naga kingdom was Shishunaga empire until 340 BCE
9. And the last Nagas, Nanda Empire was defeated by Chandragupta Maurya with the help of Chanakya during early 3rd century BCE. There are records which states that Nandas are Shudras.

Of Buddhists & Jainism talks gives accounts of these Naga peoples who probably lived during the decline of Indus Valley Civilization
12. A Naga by origin, Aluva Pandya kingdom ruled Tulu nadu from 200 CE to 1400 CE. They called themselves as Pandyavamsa and their emblem is fish
they were defeated by Kadambas & Satavahanas, Aryan tribes. One of their famous king is Kulasekara Pandya
13. Another Naga kingdom was defeated by Samudragupta who ruled between 170 - 350 CE, they are called Nagas of Padmavati, one of their popular king is Virasena
