Earlier this year, I got the opportunity of a lifetime.

@agazdecki, @shaanvp, and a group of investors gave me $100k to buy a startup.

I bought a business from @microacquire, and now I'm going to grow it.

Here's the story of how it happened, and what's coming next đŸ§”
It all started when Andrew DM'd Shaan with an idea made of solid gold.

Andrew owns http://MicroAcquire.com  - and wanted to give a business away to someone in Shaan's audience.

Great PR for Andrew, Shaan gets a viral idea, and they both help a hustler.

Win-win-win. đŸ„‡
Shaan tweeted it, and in typical @ShaanVP style, it blew up.

Folks were lining up to pitch in $5-10k to give a business to a young entrepreneur. https://twitter.com/ShaanVP/status/1346532322871398400?s=20
What started as a small $5k idea was snowballing into a 6-figure endeavor 💰

My eyes were popping out of my head. 👀
This was a perfect chance for me to do something ridiculously cool & learn a lot along the way. Maybe learn more than getting an MBA. (h/t @jakobgreenfeld)

I HAD to try for it, even though I didn't think I'd win in a million years.
I decided to shoot my shot. I tweeted at Andrew & Shaan.

But... I knew 95% of people would stop there. After all, it's all that they asked for.

I knew if I wanted to even have a chance, I had to do more.

A lot more. https://twitter.com/TheDanielMitch/status/1346555866783379456?s=20
So... I searched far and wide to find email addresses for Andrew, Shaan, and every investor that responded in the thread.

I made them a quick deck to tell them I was the right choice.

And I sent off dozens of pitch decks within hours of Shaan’s tweet.
The next day, @agazdecki responded saying that he "liked the hustle."

(That was a relief, considering I just invaded his personal email.)

Then a few days later... BOOM. đŸ’„

Andrew told me I was a finalist.

Just needed a goal line punch. That's not too hard, right Pete Carroll?
Tough interview? Nope.

Resume scrutiny? Nope.

All they did was ask me a simple question.

"How will you grow the business? đŸ€”

I was too close to fail now.

So, I knew I had to make another effort and do something most people wouldn't.
They looked at my site... and picked me! đŸ€Ż

Andrew made my day with his email.

Shaan even shouted me out in his newsletter and said my site was "better than 99.9% of job apps."

I earned the chance of a lifetime. đŸ€©

And just got some amazing mentors (even more valuable, IMO).
It's a cool story that ends happily, so I'm grateful to be at the center of it.

But it's just the beginning and I'm just getting started.

We ended up buying a killer Shopify app called Sold Stock with:
- $22k ARR
- 90% profit
- huge upside

And I'm building in public. 🛠
TAKEAWAY: Shoot your shot (over and over and over) 🚀

If you see something you want, give it a try.

You WILL lose. A lot.

But all you need is for ONE to work. So keep trying!

Persistent optimism is lost on basically everyone. So let it be your competitive advantage.
Want proof?

Just a few weeks earlier, I sent Shaan 2Âą to get his attention when he was hiring.

He tweeted my trick. But I never heard from him about the job.

(Not that I blame him. @benmlevy is THE man for the job đŸ˜€)

But I didn't quit there. https://twitter.com/ShaanVP/status/1307151847245795330?s=20
