In the Obama era, the leaking of Israeli covert action was designed to deter such action.

Israel was strictly following its decades old ambiguity policy, and these leaks were very harmful and complicating.
Since then Iran’s actions have become far more brazen.

We’ve seen it with the regime’s ballistic missile attacks from Iran’s mainland.

And we’ve also seen it in the nuclear arena as it invites the IAEA to showcase its latest nuclear blackmail and extortion.
Should Israel strictly stick to its ambiguity policy, it would be very disadvantage in its actions in this war between wars.

Israel also understood that the Washington leaking would resume with the Obama folks back in power with Biden. It did, with the leak of covert naval ops.
So Israel has greatly modified its ambiguity policy so it’s not disadvantaged by these American leaks, and can properly respond — and hopefully deter further Iranian brazen actions.
But this message is also directed to the west, so they understand that Israel will not sit idly by and accept agreements made in European capitals that negatively impact Middle East security.
The father of this new policy is, IMO, Yossi Cohen.
One more point: The Biden folks don’t want to associated with Israeli covert actions. They see the close relationship with Jerusalem as something that should inhibit “risky” Israeli action. The longer there’s no attribution, the longer Washington is considered a suspect.
With Israel taking credit, even if only anonymously and implicitly, Washington can’t be considered a suspect in these operations.

In effect, these ‘calculated (Israeli) leaks’ tamper Washington’s objection/opposition to Israel’s covert action.
Considering the close defense and intelligence relationship between Jerusalem and Washington, If Jerusalem would strictly follow its ambiguity policy, and Washington would respect/adhere to it, they’d be considered ‘complicit’.

The new arrangement gives Israel more flexibility.
