What ‘ Actual Feminism’ Is. A thread. Please give it a try.
Feminism is a movement to end sexism, sexist exploitation, and oppression”.
Feminism is a collection of movements aimed at defining, establishing, and defending equal political, economic, and social rights and equal opportunities for women.
Its concepts overlap with those of women's rights. Feminism seeks gender equality, some feminists argue that men's liberation is therefore a necessary part of feminism, and that men are also harmed by sexism and gender roles.
Patriarchal assumptions and practices that oppress and disempower women and girls are
identified and challenged.
Patriarchy is a social system in which society is organized around male authority figures. It is not only bad for women but also toxic towards masculinity.
The consensus today in feminist and masculinity theories is that men and women should cooperate to achieve the larger goals of feminism. It has been proposed that, in large part, this can be achieved through considerations of women's agency.
Giving a girl basic rights of freedom of speech, Health, Education or equal civic and social rights isn't something special. These are the rights she was born with.
Women were prevented from conducting business without a male representative, be it father, brother, husband, legal agent, or even son. Married women could not exercise control over their own children without the permission of their husbands.
Women had little or no access to education and were barred from most professions. In some parts of the world, such restrictions on women continue today.
The feminist voices of the Renaissance never coalesced into a coherent philosophy or movement. This happened only with the Enlightenment, when women began to demand that the new reformist rhetoric about liberty, equality, and natural rights be applied to both sexes.
Feminist theory now aims to interrogate inequalities and inequities along the intersectional lines of ability, class, gender, race, sex, and sexuality, and feminists seek to effect change in areas where these intersectionalities create power inequity.
Feminist political activists campaign in areas such as reproductive rights, domestic violence, fairness, social justice, and workplace issues such as family medical leave, equal pay, and sexual harassment and discrimination.
Anytime stereotyping, objectification, infringements of human rights, or intersectional oppression occurs, it's a feminist issue.
