Okay, buckle up because my very favorite story from my mission deals with this very "rule": https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="🧵" title="Thread" aria-label="Emoji: Thread">1/10 https://twitter.com/TheStakeClerk/status/1381268636480905218">https://twitter.com/TheStakeC...
It was High Councilman Sunday. I don& #39;t remember the high councilman& #39;s talk, but I& #39;ll never forget him because of what happened after Sacrament meeting. My new comp and I had a couple of investigators and recent converts we were trying to introduce to various members when... 2/10
Out of nowhere, the High Councilman storms up to my companion and, in front of everyone, starts haranguing him for taking the sacrament with his left hand: "Elder, why would you be so careless as to take the sacrament with your left hand? Don& #39;t you have any idea how sacred...3/10
these emblems are? Do you just not care about the rules? You are supposed to obey with exactness Elder. And you have a responsibility as a missionary to set an example for the members of this ward! But through your carelessness, you are leading them astray!... 4/10
It may seem like a small thing to you, but we have been commanded to do this for a reason, and the Lord cannot look upon sin with the least degree of allowance. You need to repent so you can serve this ward with the full power of the Holy Spirit."

I wish I was exaggerating. 5/10
I& #39;m looking on in shock. I& #39;ve never met this guy, and I barely know my companion, who has endured this hostile interaction with one of those small grins that can only be described as gleeful evil. I am horrified that were going to have an all out confrontation in the foyer. 6/10
Instead, my companion slowly raises his right hand in front of his face, as if to flip this guy off. But he doesn& #39;t. Instead, he points to it with his left and says "Do you see this scar?"

The looks in both of there faces are seared into my memory forever. 7/10
"A few years ago" my companion continues, I was working on an engine and my glove got caught in a chain. All four fingers were ripped clean off. I was lucky doctors could reattach them, but they don& #39;t bend so well these days, and they certainly don& #39;t grip small things... 8/10
"But I don& #39;t know, maybe I could figure out a way to balance the sacrament on my hand and drop it into my mouth. Do you think that would be better? I wouldn& #39;t want to set a bad example or be careless with sacred things." 9/10
I have never seen someone apologize so profusely as that High Councilman in that moment. And all the while, my companion smiles smugly, then says "Don& #39;t worry about it. But in the future, maybe think twice before you try to call someone to repentance." /fin
