They're trying to "survive low prices" by making more & more of a bulk commodity nobody wants.

I'm sorry but there's no deeper systematic cause to blame here.

The farm lobby just blames low prices bc then nobody has to take responsibility for having a shitty business model.
And farmers have gotten away with this shitty business model in large part BY SCREWING WORKERS.

Why bother fixing your own operation when you can just cut corners on labor?
This is why it's so important we understand that farmers aren't labor.

They're capital.

It's why family farmers tend to support conservative politics: they're capital & profit from minimal labor, consumer, & environmental protections.
It sure ain't because of family values, which becomes immediately apparent when you work w family farms up close & see how most of them treat their own family members lol
