Why do I have a problem with digital ID cards when 'FaCeBoOk oWns EvEryThINg?' Because I know what this looks like in real life and you should too.

1. Let's say we set up a health ID that tracks your history of disease and infection. You're wealthy, and can avoid density driven diseases? Your ID allows you access to goods and services. Being poor, your ID declines it because you're a 'dirty' person who caught COVID-19.
2. Would this control disease? Maybe. But it would create a system where we blamed people for prior illness and morally labelled them as a liability who will probably break social distancing measures in store and 'endanger' rich folks.
3. Being able to access goods and services, you are further cut off from integration, social mobility, and self improvement. When you factor in allowing every store, shop and country to see your ethnicity, disabilities, political inclinations and religion it becomes a nightmare.
4. Where does it end? Will you have to register a new boyfriend or a one night stand with the government? Who will have that information? Can stores decline you over it? There's a reason we like privacy: because people are inherently inclined to judge you on your private life.
5. You've seen how insanely stupid Facebook algorithms are at picking up actual hate speech: do you really think big stores aren't going to have evil data AI that bans entry for ID cards for people who got under 4 GCSEs as a precautionary risk against shoplifting?
