hello hello! Since ramadhan is in 2 days, here’s a thread on it!
so as everyone here knows, ramadhan is the month where every single muslim in the world fasts from dawn to sunset! We wake up early in the morning for sahoor and break fast after sunset
🌙Why do we fast?
1. It is under 1/5 pillars of Islam which are the shahadah, five daily obligatory prayers, charity(zakat),fasting during ramadhan and hajj(pilgrimage)
2.Spiritual Healing
We are encouraged to practice patience and avoid getting upset/angry because at any time when we’re angry, our words and actions in the heat of the moment may hurt others!+
We also perform extra prayers called Taraweeh and are extremely encouraged to read the Quran because in this month, the brownie points(good deed points) are multiplied a lot when we do extra acts of worships! So naturally, everyone wants the brownie points!☺️
3. Gratitude
We give thanks to Allah during our prayers for whatever dua that He has granted for us, or just simply thank Him for giving us the opportunity to be here on Earth! We also become more appreciative of our lives and family time!
4. Rebuilding relationship with family members/other muslims
We are extremely encouraged to break our fast together as a family! During pre-covid times, some muslims would go to the mosque and break fast with other muslims before praying
5. Empathy
There are people around the world who are unable to afford meals for their family, let alone themselves. We are advised to help those in need for ramadhan, like donating/giving food to them.
6. Health/Detox
Fasting is very beneficial for the digestive system, muscles and body purification! Provided that we do not overeat during sahoor or when breaking fast.
🌙Who can fast and who cannot fast?
Everyone can fast no matter what age you are at! However, children who have not reached puberty(though encouraged to start practising as soon as they can!)the elderly, +
those who are physically or mentally incapable of fasting, women on their periods, pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers and travelers are exempt
🌙What breaks the fast?
Here’s a list for you!
🌙Making up for missed days
1. Compulsory repayment - repay the number of days that they missed. Usually applies to those who are ill(short-term),menstruating etc.
2. Compulsory payment but do not need to repay their fast (Fidyah)- pay for someone else to be fed (amount varies with the country/region). Applies to those who are old of age and critically ill/have chronic illness
3.Kaffarah - only applies if you intentionally break your fast(usually due to having sexual intercourse, intentionally eating/drinking when fasting etc.)Either fast for 60 days continuously or feed 60 poor people.
🌙Laylatul Qadr
This is the day where the first verses of Quran were revealed to the prophet Muhammad (PBUH)
This special day falls on one of the 10 last nights of Ramadhan, though no one knows exactly when but what we do know that it happens on one of the odd nights (21st,23rd,25th,27th,29th).
The brownie points for this particular night outweighs any other night. The reward of doing a deed on the night is better than 1000 months = ~ 84 years.
It also said that one sign of this special night is when the sun is bright and clear, but the sunlight rays won’t be as visible due to the fact that the wings of angels are blocking the rays! And the night is said to be calm, not too hot or cold!
We also have the opportunity to have all our sins forgiven on this night.
++ this concludes my ramadhan thread! You may notice that your muslim moots will be ia / semi-ia! Please do respect their decision because they wanna do lots of good deeds + worshipping acts so they may not be so active!!
To any muslim reading this, feel free to drop in any extra info! And ramadhan mubarak to you! May this year’s ramadhan be a very blessed and lovely month for you!❤️
