Let’s all make the music/film/photo scene, hell, Saskatoon in general, a better, safer place for everyone. It’s gonna take some work and it starts with acknowledgment and accountability. Now is the time to shovel some shit and take out some trash. Better late than never. #yxe /1 https://twitter.com/cbcsaskatoon/status/1381197176542535690
What changes can local venues, restaurants, businesses, people (myself included) make to move forward with this. I would be love for this thread to be full of suggestions that could be read through, discussed, shared. /2
Let’s make this constructive, let’s hear suggestions for industries and businesses that they could discuss internally, maybe help guide them to positive change. Things they know about and haven’t addresses or things they may never have thought of. /3
I’ll start. I would love for places like @SaskMusic, @creativesask, and similar to deep dive into the history of artists when considering them for funding and support. Do they have a history of bad behavior? Have they held themselves accountable and truly taken steps to change?
I would love for venues/fests like @AmigosSK, @blackcatyxe, @bwaytheatre, @capitolclubyxe, @saskjazz, to do a similar. Don’t give a platform to artists w/ a history of sexual misconduct and non-apologies until they’ve proven they understand, take responsibility, and do right.
I just read of a bar somewhere that when someone told the bartender of seeing someone drop something in a drink, all lights on, full stop, announcement for drinks down, replace women’s drinks on the house, let the individual know, out goes the person trying to drug people.
Addressed to everyone: Concert etiquette (as I call it) should be way more common. Be spatially aware or yourself and others, hands to yourself, watch your elbows, don’t charge through a crowd, don’t spill drinks all over others, normalize not drinking.
