A short thread explaining why Inuit today hunt for their food and can't just leave their homelands for ignorant vegans and animal rights activists.
We Inuit shouldn't even have to explain our traditions but because I see so much ignorance and misinformation, I'm getting tired of us constantly having to repeat ourselves, so I'm making this thread to educate people a little bit.
A large majory of communities in Nunavut are fly-in communities meaning grocery prices are insane. Nunavut has the highest rate in Canada for food insecurity at 57%, while having the highest rate of child food poverty at 31%.

And let's say an Inuit family *wanted* to move, because suggesting all Inuit leave their homelands just because of living costs they have no control over is horrible. The left photo is how much a *one way* flight from Arctic Bay, Nunavut to Ottawa, Ontario would cost per person,
while the photo on the right is how much a one-way flight from Ottawa, Ontario to Calgary, Alberta (about the same distance and from Arctic Bay to Ottawa) would cost per person.
Given the high poverty rates within Nunavut, the average family could barely afford monthly groceries, so what makes you think they will be able to afford a flight to go somewhere more affordable?
So, given all these factors, Inuit currently have no other choices but to rely on hunting to feed not only their families, but also their communities.
