I think most old people (not all) fail to understand the concepts of racism, sexism, feminism & the importance of using pronouns and I feel like that doesn’t allow you to misbehave with them or demean them in any way. Because of them you’re as educated as you are today & I think
you should calmly sit down with them & have a conversation where you break down these concepts for them and explain why it’s important for us to not be racist or sexist or whatsoever for that matter. I witnessed someone talk to their parent in such a degrading tone today just bec
they weren’t educated enough on these topics. And after the said person walked away, the parent wiped a tear pretending very well to be okay and making sure I did not notice they were hurt. I think they’re as innocent as it gets, just really caught up in the old ways of thinking,
because they grew up amidst those ideas and were conditioned to believe what we do not believe today and that’s okay because it’s never to late to educate them on such issues. Perspectives can be changed but it’s really hard to erase any scars you give to a relationship.
So pleaseplease be kind and patient with your parents or grandparents or aunts and uncles. They belong to a different generation and the mindset of the society they grew up in isn’t their fault. We need to educate them in a way that they’d understand, it’s our responsibility.
