Fun fact: The king of Gour conferred the title of ‘Manikya’ on Ratna Pha and thereon, the successive kings of Tripura have been using it as a suffix to their The Tripura identity exists only because of Hindu Bengalis 🤓🤓 https://twitter.com/PradyotManikya/status/1380999255901433856
Maharajas of Tripura encouraged the immigration of Hindu Bengalis in Tripura. The Maharajas then adopted Hinduism as the state religion, & assimilated Bengali language & literature with their own culture. The kings of Tripura ever issued postal stamps bearing legends in Bengali.
All of the local languages co-existed. Most probably, the reason behind this was to get help and cooperation from Hindu Bengalis in running the administration, and also in carrying out developments in the tribal areas. The plains that were mostly captured by islam got islamized.
In 15th century Chittagong Hill Tracts were under the Twipra Kingdom. Their religion still exists & has 14 deities known as Chaturdasa Devata. These Devatas are still preserved in the Chaturdasa mandir in Agartala, India.
Bengali language and culture was undertaken by all the ruling Manikya monarchs starting from the first ruler of this dynasty, King Ratna Manikya in 1464. In 1830, King Krishna Kishore Manikya had urged Prince Dwaraka Nath Tagore for help during a political crisis in his state 🤓
Why did anti-Hindu Bengali sentiments start then?

Tripura merged with the Indian Union in September 1949. Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya, Tripura's last king, had decided to merge with the Indian Union in April 1947. But he died and a regency council headed by his widow,
Kanchanprava Devi, was formed to look after the administration, as the coronated prince, Kirit Bikram Kishore Manikya, was a minor. In compliance with his will, Kanchanprava, on behalf of her minor son, signed the Instrument of Accession. However,
Mohammed Abdul Barik Khan alias Gedu Mia, the leader of the Anjuman Islamia group and a stooge of the late king's step-brother, Durjay Kishore Debbarman, were trying to merge Tripura with East Pakistan. The plot, however, was leaked & Tripura merged with the Indian Union in 1949
Maharaja Bir Bikram governed with fairness: he had rushed to parts of eastern Bengal to save Hindu Bengalis during riots. He also created the Tribal Reserve to protect tribal identity, anticipating the flood of Hindu refugees.
However, Durjay kishore was different. He formed the organization called Bir Bikram Tripura Sangha, which was Anti-Hindu Bengali. The Sangha had a militant wing called ‘Seng-Krak’ (at that time translated as beheading at one blow). The Seng-Krak began to
incite the tribals through propaganda that the Bengali refugees had grabbed Tripura State. They made them to believe that the Muslims and the Tribals in Tripura had to support the move for merger of Tripura with Pakistan. Big rallies of the Ansar Bahini began to take place at
various places in East Pakistan bordering Tripura. A big Muslim rally was also organized at the heart of Agartala. The prevailing situation was very alarming for the govt. of India. According to the intelligence Bureau of India, the Muslim League Ansars in East Pakistan
were spreading open propaganda that Tripura belongs to Eastern Pakistan and that preparations are being made to invade Tripura. Several pamphlets inciting Muslims to conquer Tripura and annex it to East Bengal are in circulation in East Pakistan

It's a shame that spirit lives on
