If you haven’t read his origins work on Jack Staff, do so. It’s a fantastic take on British superheroes as well as a love letter to our industry. It’s so much more than a transplant of an American genre, instead critically thinking about what British superheroes would look like.
Furthermore his incredible Hellboy universe story The Visitor with @artofmmignola is one of the best titles from that universe. Absolutely beautiful and heartbreaking all at once, it’s totally human and powerful and anyone who’s a fan of the genre needs to read it.
I think this has annoyed me so much because it’s disrespectful to Paul Grist and pretty much any other creator who has wanted to carve out their own part of comics away from the Big Two. This isn’t about not being familiar with comics, it’s about looking down on the medium.
Comics deserve respect and so do the creators. The interesting part of this story isn’t that a fan has got his dream of working at Marvel. The interesting part is that Marvel has hired Paul Grist, a unique talent. It matters how you tell this story. Don’t condescend.
