So while yesterday was bad, today has already been an order of magnitude worse - take care of yourselves folks.

I'm blocking like it's Minecraft, but want to address one particular misconception among the torrent of bullshit, regarding the Declaration itself:

First, calling it a 'Charter' is wrong. It's not a legal document, it's a declaration of priorities and approaches.

It is not written to weed out the worst faith interpretations because it's not a legal document. It's not a policy document with all loopholes closed.

Because, and this is important, it's not written as a layperson's guide to feminism. It's written by feminist organisations for people working in that field, who have a working knowledge of the issues. Everything isn't spelled out in detail because it doesn't need to be.

It's ok to use an assumption of a level of knowledge when writing for a specific audience. The document would be thousands of pages long if each point had to be expanded to avoid bad-faith interpretations, or even just to explain different approaches for each point.

It doesn't need to do that, because it's not an introductory guide for the public or a legally binding policy document.

And second, this is a *global* declaration. The people who keep insisting our laws on not putting 15yos on sex offenders registers for having a sexual relationship with their 15yo partner are sufficient are being incredibly self-obsessed. Other countries exist.

Many of those countries do not have that flexibility, especially for LGBTQ+ teenagers. A global statement is about more than just Scottish law.

People who are pretending this is a legally binding policy document designed for our system specifically are lying to you. They are trying to scare you using a document intended for a specific audience covering a global system and the vast systemic changes needed.

Everyone who is being targeted by these people - please stay safe. You don't need to engage - post information and then mute the threads. Use your block function, change notifications to 'people I follow only' and if you are able to, focus on other things.
