I'm back to work tomorrow, so the political stuff will slow up a little on social media. However, I did want to do a series of tweets on the different council wards in Liverpool before that. I'll add to it when I can. #liverpoolcouncilelections
#kirkdale I'm standing here for the Greens. Usually a huge 75 to 85% vote for Labour in this area, but a lot of anger and frustration with the current councillors. No UKIP candidate (they were 2nd last time), Greens were 3rd
#stmichaels has elected a Green in every council election since 2012. 67% for Anna Key last time with Labour in 2nd place. The excellent @StephPitchers is the Green candidate this time
#greenbank A battleground. 1 Green and 2 Labour councillors. In 2018, Greens held 48% to 46%. In 2019, Labour held the seat 53% to 41%. 200 swing votes to win it (or 400+ Labour voters staying at home due to council mismanagement / Starmer leadership) to win here @GreenbankGreens
#wavertree ward. David Morgan @wavertreegreens contesting for the Greens after 2+ years of casework and activism. Very promising for us this time. Voters I've spoken to there v hostile to Labour over council mismanagement https://wavertreegreenparty.wordpress.com/
#everton gets two tweets as it is a really interesting one. Kevin Robinson-Hale @EvertonGreens standing for us and has worked really hard with local campaigning. Was 80%+ for Labour last time. A new Labour candidate and the current independent (former Labour) councillor / cont...
... #everton so depending on how the votes split, this is now a potential three way contest, with maybe 30 to 35% of the vote being enough to win this time. Well worth a Green vote if you want change. Greens doubled vote share last time and are the 2nd placed party here
#central ward. A lot of student voters registered here, often with low turnout, so smaller margins than you'll see elsewhere in the city. Was a possible for us, now definitely winnable after this shocking story https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/fake-taxi-creep-who-terrified-20318906 300 voters to switch to the Green here please
#princespark. 2 tweets again. Anna Rothery's ward (the Labour mayoral candidate endorsed by Jeremy Corbyn then no longer allowed to stand https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/former-labour-leader-jeremy-corbyn-19805045). Also, Joanne Anderson's ward, actual Labour mayoral candidate. Some interesting Labour conversations there. Cont/...
... #princespark. New candidate for Labour and for Greens Muryam Sheikh. Joanne A was elected in a 2019 byelection and was stepping down as a councillor, before coming forward as a Mayoral candidate and Greens in a decent 2nd place here consistently and best alternative to Labour
#picton Big improvement in Green vote in last locals (also a distant 2nd byelection on day of General Election in 2019). This would be a real shock result if Greens were to win here but expect the gap to close significantly. Will no longer be a safe Labour seat
#riverside ward. Again, this would be a complete shock result if Greens were to win from a distant 2nd, but it has good potential for us to target and win over the next few elections
Pausing this now and will add the rest of the wards as and when I can
