A near constant stream of deeply concerning stories about the SNP has made very little difference to support for them.

People seem to believe both that the SNP want independence and that independence will solve the problems we face.

Neither thing is true.

The SNP want power and to transform Scotland into a society that is less free and more authoritarian. Had they wanted a second referendum and independence they could have moved towards both long before now. That they have not us revealing.

Independence, at this time, would lead to the ruination of the country. The economic impact would be devastating. That may not be the case in 20 years time but it most certainly will be now. The fact that the SNP won't say this publicly, despite knowing it, is revealing.

It proves my initial point about power being the true goal. That is unsurprising, all political parties want power. What is worrying about the SNP is that they have no real policy agenda and, instead, have become, increasingly, beholden to a radical fringe element.

That fringe element is the youth wing of the party, in the grip of postmodernist thinking and ideology. Those are fun ways to annoy your parents, telling them truth doesn't exist and that even 2+2 doesn't equal 4, but it isn't a good place to be determining policy. 6

Few in the communities most in need of good government are aware of what these groups are concerned by. Philosophical debates on privilege and identity don't matter much to people on benefits and a reliance on food banks.

We are heading towards a time of recession and soaring unemployment, a time when our education system is in crisis, a time when our health service faces huge pressures.

Now is the time for sensible governance and not ideological and philosophical waffle.

There has never been a more important election in Scotland. That some will put the dream of independence before the needs of the most vulnerable is a terrifying and shameful thing.

As for me I will vote for the country, for the vulnerable and for the future.
