One of the things about "the trans controvery" being a constant part of the news cycle is that it enables cis people to, at any time, torment the trans people in their lives by talking openly about the merits of our existence as if it's a line item in the national budget.
this is sortof particular to my experience as a closeted trans woman working in an office job. within my first month on the job, one of my coworkers initiated a conversation with another by saying "we have a transgender problem", and that shaped my entire experience at my work.
at the same time, it's more general than that. having just about any marginalized identity means people will feel free to openly talk about the worth of your life, if they don't realize you're listening.
simply by having the "open and vigorous intellectual debates", which are, of course, the cornerstone of democracy, privileged people can create an environment that is overtly hostile to marginalized people.
bold of this dude to show up and do the exact think I am complaining about https://twitter.com/AngryLuca/status/1381283847241756673?s=19
