stereotypes about hispanics/latinos that need to stop
(thread)
(thread)
- that we all speak spanish fluently
- that weâre all mexican
- that we can all handle spicy foods
- that weâre all âloud and crazyâ
- this applies more to mexicans but the âtacos and drugsâ stereotype
- using âfeistyâ or âspicyâ to describe us
- that weâre all âillegalâ
+ if youâre going to refer to someone who doesnât have papers, use the word undocumented better :/

- not a stereotype but stop sexualizing us
- that we all have accents
- not a stereotype but IMPORTANT
a lot of our first languages ARENT english/didnt go to the best schools growing up/grew up being spoken to in spanish. so when one of us misspelles, uses improper grammar, pronounces something wrong dont immediately jump on their ass about it.

- ^ adding to that, it doesnât mean we arenât open to learn. it just gets annoying when weâre constantly being reminded. english is a hard language.
- that weâre all going to have tan skin
- that males are a part of these âgangsâ
- not a stereotype: gringo is not a slur. we will openly call you a gringo, and if that offends you youâre weird

iâd like to also add this. as we all know alex is latino and he doesnât really mind some of these things so he lets them pass. this DOES NOT mean we are comfortable with it. he does not speak for all of us so donât only take his word/opinion.
thats all iâll put for now. im so sick and tired of seeing people generalize/use these stereotypes on us. hispanic/latino oomfs if you would like to add anything else in the replies please do! i can add it to the thread. i love you all :]

rts are very appreciated <3
