I'm on episode 7 of "Them". Think I'm gonna do a review of it once I've finished but I can definitively here, if you are black please avoid this show. Its Black Trauma porn, yes there is informative information about how black vets got screwed with the GI bill and redlining but
its not worth this. I've felt nothing but hopeless and frustrated since I've pressed play. This is not the black reclamation that was Lovecraft country, or the unique study of racism that was Get Out. This is almost gluttonous with the terror our black protagonist go through.
Each member of the family has been psychologically scarred and the show seems to delight in showing us the internal scars of the past while piling on in the present. Again I'm up to episode 7 and there is NOTHING in the way of hope or even the slightest hint of a light at the end
of the tunnel. And to be frank the supernatural element of this show is entirely inconsequential. It feels like its just an added element to torture our already tortured leads. After a certain point watching people punch down just isn't fun anymore. I'mma finish this but Jesus...
As I count and if you get mad at spoilers I'm sorry but I don't care -
To our Black Leads:
- Rape
- Their baby gets brutally murdered
- Their dog gets killed
- Countless Slurs (Every white actor in this is suspect now)
- Endlessly gaslit
- PTSD (All of them)
- Sexualized minors
(Note this is BEFORE the supernatural bits)

- Lynch mob
- Police violence
- Taunted about their dead child
- Trauma shown tearing the family apart
- Wife activates husbands wartime trigger on purpose
- Haunted by the woman that killed their baby
- Haunted by a Minstrel act
And now our main white antagonist is getting abducted and potentially sexually assaulted by the farmer she turned to to lynch our black leads.

Ya'll wtf am I watching...

I know this has black writers and I'm not one to block the bag but holy fuck.
The problem with this show is that they fundamentally do not know who their audience is. They don't know what story they are trying to tell. What they do know is that each part of each story they want to tell has black pain and that is the only thing that remains consistent
Oh my god. We now have a ghost that is sexualizing one of our minor black leads, and with a lesbian kiss she has granted that characters wish on not wanting to be like her mom and sister. "Ugly, I want to be perfect...beautiful"

And now she's turning white.

YA'LL.
And now she's covering herself in white paint. Ya'll I don't even know. What the fuck am I WATCHING!
Taking a break.
Back at it with Episode 9. I firmly believe that art is subjective. I firmly believe that all art has its place that being said. Don't watch this shit.

Please.

I hate this show. I'm actively upset at this show, and furious at everyone involved in its creation. I'm hoping to
find something, anything of value in this and thus I'm sticking it out but I genuinely hate this. The last episode has the mother in a mental hospital being gaslit and blamed for the death of her son, and the father is being tortured in front of his daughters who have guns aimed
at them. The episode ends with the daughters watching two men struggling to hang him in the basement of his home. I hate this. I don't see how anyone could derive anything remotely close to pleasure from it. We're now getting into the history of the supernatural bit and I just
don't care. I wanted this to prove me wrong I wanted this show to surprise me but it didn't its exactly what I thought it'd be - its a studio hopping on the trend of social horror with no meaning or message behind it. This was made my people who saw Get Out did well but didn't
get it. This was made by someone who only read the cliff notes of Lovecraft Country. Black suffering does not a horror flick make, and if you are going to have black pain as an aspect of your story HAVE A FUCKING PURPOSE FOR IT! Also its pretty standard for a baddie to get theirs
but having a woman locked up and drugged is not a "Hey aren't you glad they got theirs" kinda moment and if you think it is that is a fucking problem. I hate this show with every fiber of my mother fucking being I truly do and god damn if this thread can keep even one person away
I did my job ugh. Okay enough venting. Now to finish this long and tiring journey.
I'm not gonna go into any further details here I'll have the full review on my youtube channel tomorrow. But if you were wondering, does it get worst?

Yes...yes it does.
They literally made White Supremacy a supernatural force.
Ya'll I've finished it and I'm filming the review and like I'm laughing to keep from crying this shit was WILD
