As an SF elementary teacher whose school has safely been reopened since October, and is conveniently located on a Slow Street in Potrero Hill, I am baffled by the principles of #SFUSD in D4 & supervisor @D4GordonMar’s pursuit of the removal of slow streets.
Slow Streets do NOT compromise a school’s ability to reopen safely. Instead, Slow Streets have allowed our students, teachers & families to safely walk to and from their bicycles, vehicles and homes without the fear of cars using our street as a thoroughfare.
Our students can now safely travel to and from the park across the street during the day for recess. Our students can now safely practice socially distancing on the sidewalk while cars cue up for morning drop offs & afternoon pick ups without other interfering traffic.
So, @D4GordonMar & #SFUSD before you seek to remove what has become an asset to many SF families & community members, I invite you to ask the principles & members of schools who HAVE reopened safely on Slow Streets what their experience has been. I bet it’s a positive one.
