Huge part of why @GISAID & local ownership of viral sequence data matters!! To achieve a robust warning system against the next pandemic we must earn the trust of ALL communities. Make the people the OWNERS of viral sequence data from THEIR samples.
https://www.nytimes.com/2013/08/08/science/after-decades-of-research-henrietta-lacks-family-is-asked-for-consent.html

A small office from @CDCgov called CDC OAMD (Google it) are using your tax $ to fund a āsolutionā that weakens @GISAID & harms
health security by EXPLOITING / STEALING viral
genome data from YOUR BODIES YOUR SAMPLES. Take ownership back DECENTRALIZE
GENOMIC SURVEILLANCE

Please let @dmaccannell, @pha4ge, and @gatesfoundation know that Colonial Science is unacceptable. SUPPORT LOCAL INFRASTRUCTURE, TALENT and DATA OWNERSHIP. Support @GISAID @WHO. Here
and abroad
. DECENTRALIZE COMPETENCE. https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/the-problem-of-colonial-science/

We should be working on REAL SOLUTIONS like funding (and begging!) @GISAID to support more viruses and enabling INDIVIDUAL patients to anonymously maintain a stake & way to track how viral genome sequences from samples that come from their bodies are used in research & dataviz
This is what CDC (your tax dollars!) funded Science Colonialism looks like https://twitter.com/macroliter/status/1379818200217624581
FYI ownership means you DO NOT ask African, Brazilian, or even Boston and Louisiana communities to dump the pathogen genome sequences they generate into INSDC (public domain) servers like GenBank. If you want to INCENTIVIZE real time sharing of data you need @GISAID.

Kinda funny to see the same voices like David Hausslerās group & @RussCorbett at UCSC and of course @dmaccannell and friends like David Blazes from @gatesfoundation trying to attack and weaken @GISAID. Sadly, even @trvrb seems to be for science colonialism. Or is he?
Oh hi
@da_blazes , does everyone on Twitter and @gatesfoundation know what youāre doing behind the scenes to attack and weaken @GISAID.. to promote science colonialism in USA
& abroad? See above for moral clarity.

Hereās @RussCorbettās & coās attempt to smear @GISAID via a contrived @biorxivpreprint title. Imagine the arrogance necessary to attack the most successful pathogen data sharing initiative in the middle of a pandemic. @ucsc should be embarrassed!
h/t @meredithwadman @davidhth see above because your journalism has each been debased by sources with agendas.
Viral genomic surveillance will not go the way of HeLa cells / science colonialism. Power resides in marginalized people who consent to provide samples & community based sequencing Co-Ops that fortify & enshrine TRUE incentives to share our data in real time.
@GISAID
