Klavier is so used to being called hot/attractive that it doesn’t register as a complement anymore...why would he be flattered by someone singling out the one thing he has comparatively little control over? So when Apollo doesn’t immediately jump to telling him how hot he is
it’s actually refreshing. Klavier still suspects a little that he’s “tricked” Apollo into liking him with his charisma and good looks, but even that deeply ingrained fear fades as their relationship progresses. The first time Apollo comments on Klavier’s appearance is when
Klavier is working really hard on a case. He’s got bags under his eyes, and his hair is a mess, and he’s wearing an old band t-shirt and staring down at papers on a used IKEA coffee table with a ton of rings and scratches on it. He’s in Apollo’s apartment, and it’s 2AM
and normally Klavier would be embarrassed to be seen like this, so not “himself” (aka the image that has been carefully cultivated for him since he was a teenager), but he’s too focused on the case to care at the moment. Apollo comes into the living room with two chipped cups
of shitty coffee, and Klavier makes an offhand self-depreciating comment about being a mess, and Apollo says without looking at him: “You look good like this. When you’re focused on your work.” And Klavier nearly breaks down because he knows Apollo wouldn’t
say that if he didn’t mean it. And no one has ever complemented him like that, in connection with what he’s worked so hard at, with what he really cares about — and he knows in that moment that Apollo has never cared about the “image” of Klavier Gavin, only the real person behind
the carefully-crafted persona. Apollo cares about the person the studios and managers would have preferred to ignore, the deeply sensitive, dedicated perfectionist with a strong sense of right and wrong. That’s who Apollo sees. And that’s who he finds attractive, despite all the
flaws that usually get glossed over with a veneer of bright white smiles and symmetrical features.

That’s when Klavier knows, really knows, that the person he’s thought had to be hidden carefully away all these years is capable of — even worthy of — being loved, after all.
Anyways, this has been your monthly(?) Klapollo Thought...disclaimer I might be totally off in my interpretations of their characters lol
