Hello everyone! Welcome to #PuppyBookClub! Tonight we welcome Angel Cooper🌈 @CoopersCornerTD who will speak with us about his experience as a certified therapy dog! Welcome Angel Copper🌈 and thank you so much for coming!

AC: I'm excited to be here Peyton!

(See thread 1/20)
P: What made you decide to be a therapy dog?

AC: Before mom Marie became an angel, she told my second mom, Debbie, that I might like therapy dog work! Mom Marie suggested that we work on my certification together! I was well behaved and since you get lots of attention...(2/20)
AC...it sounded cool! Then I realized how much I could help others and I loved that idea! Mom Debbie said I came by it naturally!

P: How long were you a therapy dog and what kind of training did you have?

AC:I was a certified therapy dog with mom Debbie for 7.5 years!
(3/20)
AC: However, people who knew me said I started as a therapy dog with mom Marie the day she brought me home to the US from Canada as a pup! Mom Marie always said I made her smile and laugh!
I attended puppy obedience school and other classes for canines with mom Marie! (4/20)
AC: They taught me good manners and I had lots of socialization at dog events! I passed the Canine Good Citizen test and the Therapy Dogs International test with mom Debbie!

P: We are all so sorry for the loss you experienced of mom Marie! 😔

AC: Thank you friends!

(5/20)
P: Did your job involve supporting readers or reading in any capacity?

AC: Oh yes! I volunteered in elementary schools and listened to hundreds of students read! I was a kind, compassionate, non-judgemental tutor and children loved working with me!

(6/20)
AC: I remember one little girl cried and wouldn't read with a human tutor! However, she RAN to me with several books and enthusiastically practiced reading the stories to me! I also made appearances at book fairs and other school functions!

P: Wonderful! 👏👏👏

(7/20)
P: When you weren't working, how did you enjoy time off?

AC: I LOVED running competitive dog agility! Speed was my thing and tunnels were a blast! I even earned 3 championship titles! Students said agility was my recess! I also enjoyed playing with my stuffie friends...

(8/20)
AC: ...and spending time with my family!

P: What advice would you have for anyone considering becoming part of the therapy dog profession?

AC: Listen to your "inner voice". If you like adults and/or children, you have good manners, you're easy going in any situation...

(9/20)
AC: therapy dog volunteer work may be a great fit for you! Schools, hospitals, airports, assisted living facilities, nursing homes and court rooms are popular volunteer sites! Therapy dogs make a positive difference in the lives of others!

(10/20)
P: Well my goodness thank you so very much Angel Cooper🌈 my friend! This was so nice of you to come and share your expertise with us! Being a therapy dog sounds very rewarding! 👏👏👏👏

AC: Thanks so much for inviting me!
(11/20)
Tonight Angel Cooper🌈 joins myself, Aha, and my stuffie Alien, in reading "Clifford Goes to Dog School" by Norman Bridwell! We begin with Emily Elizabeth introducing us to her dog Clifford! He is very big and red! He can do tricks! (12/20)
He could beg and shake hands! Emily Elizabeth loved Clifford as he was! Her Aunt however thought Clifford needed to be trained and because he was too big for regular dog school, Emily Elizabeth's aunt decided she would train him herself! They started with learning heel! (13/20)
OMD leashes are tricky when they are too short or too long! Especially when you are walking a big red dog! Wouldn't you agree Angel Cooper🌈?

AC: Absolutely right Peyton!😂

(14/20)
They decided to skip the leash for a bit 🤭 and move to sit! Oh dear! Clifford sat right away and landed on a man! The man wasn't hurt! Emily Elizabeth's Aunt agreed Clifford could sit really well but now they would work on stay! (15/20)
The Aunt told Clifford to stay and then she and Emily Elizabeth went to the Aunt's house to look at dog books for training ideas! Clifford stayed just like he was told! (16/20)
He stayed when a dog food truck dumped dog food on the road in front of him! He stayed while people played frisbee around him! (17/20)
He even stayed while dogs and cats played around him! At this time, Emily Elizabeth remembered Clifford was still at home staying! She left her Aunt's and ran as fast as she could but she didn't stop to look for traffic on the street she was crossing in front of Clifford! (18/20)
Well guess what? Clifford didn't stay then! No sir! He moved quick! He grabbed Emily Elizabeth and saved her from being hit by a car! I think Clifford is very well trained! He's a great big hero! Emily Elizabeth thinks so too! (19/20)
Thanks so much everyone for coming tonight! Let's please give another round of applause to Angel Cooper🌈 for a great talk with us about being a therapy dog!👏👏👏👏 He'll be around after the meeting if you have any questions for him! Loves you all! 💜🌻(20/20)
