CW: suicide
-

with the number of students dying by suicide at Ivy League universities, you’d think there would have been some reassessment of both the worth of the education provided at these institutions (esp for individuals making college decisions now), and the fact
that for marginalised people especially these schools do nothing to help (whether financially, mentally, academically, etc).

make no mistake, education itself precedented on the idea that one’s worth is based in their achievements is a breeding ground for hyper competitiveness
& underfunded arts, students resources, etc. like in many other areas, COVID has revealed a major pitfall of the American education system, and virtually no one seems to be taking it seriously. For all the stories we hear about, there are tons more people self harming, contempl-
ating suicide, wondering if they should drop out etc. I’m tired of people acting as though these issues aren’t preventable, or that they aren’t inherent to the culture of elitist careerism that has eclipsed ideas about intellectualism for its own sake & the liberal arts themself
