How did @MakurMaker attending Howard University impact the school? (A Thread)

On July 3rd, MK committed to Howard. In just a week, he gained 37k followers (60% growth) on Instagram and had over 1 billion social media impressions.

This year, Howard University received over 29k applications. Early Action/ Early Decision applications increased by 13.4 and 17.9 percent respectively.

Now before people mention @VP Kamala Harris and her effect, regular decision applications increased by 24.8%. However the EA/ED deadline was Nov 1, 2020, two days before the election.

So, while we won’t know for certain what caused the increase in EA/ED applications, referring to the #FlutieEffect the #MakurEffect played a role.

In a study by Douglas J Chung he found; to attain similar increases in applications, a school has to either lower tuition by 3.8 percent or increase the quality of its education by recruiting higher-quality faculty, who are paid 5 percent more than their average peers.
