So after a day of pitching to 3 agents and listening to many presentations, here is what my take away it.

This industry is so subjective.

To all of my Twitter writing friends, you just starting out, you half way through an MS and you in the trenches. #WritingCommunity 1/
You cannot judge your value based on one persons opinion. Does someone say you need to improve your craft? Take a good hard look, see if you need to adjust. Multiple rejections? Take a look at that query letter and first pages again 2/
I pitched my book to three agents. It was clear I was not selling two of them. But one agent was really excited about my project. That’s what I mean about this industry being subjective. 3/
We see it all the time in our inboxes “This industry is subjective, keep trying.” I hope you don’t take those rejections personally, and you do believe what these agents are telling you. Let me offer a visual 4/
I give you $40 and tell you to go to your bookstore of choice and pick out the books you want to read. That $40 sets your limit, there is only so many books you can acquire. You walk in — what’s the first thing you do? (Besides the look at the cover) 5/
You turn that book over and read the blurb. Certain elements of that short blurb are either going to grab you or make you shrug and put the book back. Does that mean it’s a poorly written book? Clearly not, it’s published! 6/
Just like you, agents query inboxes are like a bookstore with a $40 limit. They are looking for the book THEY PERSONALLY cannot put down. And that can be based on so many things, even as simple as their mood, or their interest in gardening 7/
So don’t take it personally my dear writer friends. Keep going. So much success happens in this industry from people who do not give up on themselves. Get yourself a good CP/ support partner, eat cookies on sad days. But most of all, Keep On Writing.
