86 Episode 1 - Undertaker

The first minute of the episode does a great deal of setting up the world in 86, with the discriminatory behavior of the Alba towards the 86, the Handler over the comms going wild for no reason, and so on and so forth.

Plus Shirogumi gets to flex their CG which is always a plus!

After the title drop, we see Lena mourning the dead, as indicated with the flowers.

The lack of OST with the deafening effect of the natural sounds is enough to convey how "lonely" Lena is on the topic of caring about the 86.

The next couple of scenes are there to further indicate this.

It's how Ishii manages to be unsubtle in all the right ways.

The animated background Alba's and Lena's comment about Annette usually sleeping in shows how lazy and listless they are about the war they're in.

Glad to see the other characters besides the main ones given life, Ishii's efforts are shining through.

Love how they are so "in-your-face" they are with this,.

Lena does her best to act "human" towards the 86, though her efforts are usually met with sarcasm, which is understandably frustrating for her.

This was one of my favorite moments in the episode, with the way they're separately framed from each other. Designating that Lena and her uncle have two very different views of the 86

The Tetsuya Kawakami Bingus Chungus Faces coming in full force to rid us of the incredible tension we've been feeling thus far in the episode.

Ishii goes ham with the Food Drop to Death transition in this part.

Later on in the episode, he does the same again, but that packs a bigger punch with the added context of what happens on the battlefield.

Next, we get the perspective of the events the 86 goes through in the same timeframe as the Alba.

A great juxtaposition of the listlessness and laziness of the Alba! However...

Ishii, with his second Food Drop to Death transition this episode, goes absolutely wild.

The missing sound of the bowl hitting the floor creates incredible tension.

86 with fatal injuries are finished off by Shin, which explains why he's nicknamed The Reaper

Before I finish this thread off, I also have things I loved but have no idea where to put in it, so starting off:

First of all, I really liked how the statue shown from the Alba PoV is shown to be pointing forward, showcasing that the Alba believe what they're doing is just and righteous.

However, from the 86 PoV, that's shattered since the figure is pointing towards the corpse of an 86.

and finally, the most important one of all...

Lena's thighs.
