Why Shai is nearly a top 20 player in the NBA (thread)
Shai has taken a huge scoring jump this season going from

2020: 19.9 PTS/75 on +0.3 rTS%

2021: 25.3 PTS/75 on +5.1 rTS%

a HUGE jump in scoring, but not because CP3 left, but because of insane all around improvement which is seen by his huge efficiency jump.
With players like Grant, his efficiency has dropped by -5 rTS% because of tougher shots,

but even tho Shai now has tougher shots, his efficiency has sky rocketed because of how much he’s improved
Here are some of the biggest jumps in his scoring this year

Finishing: (61% -> 64%)

3P%: (35% -> 42%)

3-10 ft: (40% -> 53%)

improvements are definitely juiced by no fans, but there’s clear overall improvement and it adds onto his elite ball handling and shot creation
despite that elite jump in scoring, that might not even be his best improvement,

Shai’s playmaking has jumped by so much and has become a legitimate floor general.

Averaging 6.3 AST/75 and 11.2 Box Creation (Top 15) with much improved passing and court vision
Shai is around a top 15 scorer and playmaker in the NBA and because of his size at PG doesn’t bleed significant defensive value.

And despite having near the worst spacing in the NBA, he’s still one of the most efficient players in the NBA.

Shai won a game with this lineup.
I think people are so against him being highly rated because people still think of him from last season, but he’s improved by a huge margin and there shouldn’t even be an MIP race, it’s clearly him

The jump is so big that people haven’t realize how good he really is.
