What the on court presence of Robert Williams III means for the Boston Celtics

A THREAD:
Firstly let’s talk about blocks and defence in general, Rob Williams has 152 blocks in his whole career. Season isn’t even finished, yet he is already sitting at 77 blocks which means that 50.6% of his career blocks happened in Rob’s 3rd season in the league
With only 18 minutes per game, Rob Williams managed to average 1.9 blocks per game making him the 6th most successful shot blocker in the whole league despite playing around 5-13 minutes less than his opponents
Rob Williams is also dominantly leading the Celtics’ 2020/21 roster in blocks per game. Daniel Theis’ departure means that the distance between Rob and his teammates in blocks per game is extremely huge.
Lets do some clips..

1. Clamps on James Harden
2. Block on Brandon Ingram
3. Zion didn’t stand a chance
More blocks, steals and hustle plays
Timelord guarding Jokic
Secondly his offence. Rob Williams is averaging 8 points this season. What is important to notice though is that he is shooting 72.2% from the field, making him the 6th best player in the whole league when it comes to shooting percentage. Rob is also the only player on the list..
...who attempts mid range shots. We also have to take into consideration that Rob plays 18mpg, the others in the top6 apart from DeAndre Jordan are all playing below 9mins and take fewer shots in games, making their shooting percentages look good
Rob has recently been given a more significant role as he’s been elevated into a starer after Daniel Theis’ departure to Chicago. Even though the records are nothing significant these stats speak for themselves
Here are some clips of Rob’s offence:
1. His midrange
2. Do I need to say anything
3.
4. FADEAWAY MIDRANGE SHOT FROM A CENTER
5. Unreal elevation
Now let’s talk about his assists. Rob Williams only averages 1.7 assists this season but let me prove to you that stats lie in this case
In his last 10 games since he has become a starter, Rob averages 3.4 assists a game with his career high 8 assists against the Rockets, impressive for a center who’s only just started playing games regularly
Now let’s show some clips so you can see for yourself that his reactions and on court awareness are on a huge level
1. Timelord with a good rebound and assist
2. Rob’s positioning meant that stronger players (in this case Tatum) can move off ball and not only rely on their iso game and individual brilliance, this lead to an easy wide open slam for JT
3. Great pass, vision and reaction from Rob meant that JB got an easy bucket
4. Timelord with excellent vision and quick reaction meant that he found Fournier behind the arc which resulted into a 3 instead of a turnover
I really do believe Rob can be it for the Celtics, only a matter of him developing his game more and becoming more disciplined on defense and he could become a widely recognized and respected center in the whole league. Only time and more game time will tell. End of thread
