Absolutely sickening. A French political scientist declared on the French equivalent of Fox News: "We must say to Algerians:
We French are proud to have been colonized by Rome.
You Algerians should be proud to have been colonized by France."
He also adds how Algeria and France are "brothers" because "we share the same language and the same history, and that Marseille is closer to Algiers than Paris". He also explains that there is so much to do with this country [Algeria] because "they have oil and we need it" 🤷🏻‍♀️
Oh and he is also asking Algerians to get rid off their regime and that "French authorities have a role to play". Well, where do I start?
This kind of horrific narrative isn't that rare within the French elite.
I can't believe I have to say this in 2021 but: NOTHING, absolutely NOTHING good came out of colonization. The rapes, the murders, the abuse, the trauma, the spoliation and so on.
The consequences of the colonization of Algeria by France are still palpable today on both sides of the Mediterranean. The very fact that this kind of statement is still accepted today in some media speaks volume.
And yes, France and Algeria will always be interconnected. But this kind of condescending racist comments will certainly not help improving the situation or the relations.
Finally: no, French authorities have no role to play. The Algerian people should be in charge of their destiny, nobody else.
PS: I do not want to tweet the link of the video since I absolutely refuse to boost the audience of this trashy TV network.
BTW I will just add that this guy IS NOT an academic, a researcher or even a scientist. He graduated from Sciences Po,he described himself as a poli-scientist, a historian (lol lol), an author, an economist, an entrepreneur and he also ran a business school. That screams red flag.
