When I got an IUD they acted like it was nothing. I have a solid pain tolerance and no history of trouble with exams. Thought I’d be ok.

I screamed uncontrollably and then passed out.

Woke up sweaty and confused to some irritated staff. As if I’d...performed my pain...for fun?? https://twitter.com/_ginatron/status/1379842151912153089
Afterward, I heard from lots of friends that they or people they knew had had similarly horrific and frankly hostile experiences.

There’s no reason to treat patients this way, except to reinforce systemic misogyny.
(Not everyone with a uterus is a woman but I’d argue anyone with a uterus is getting medical treatment deeply informed by misogyny.)
Anyway this thread is neither pro nor con on IUDs but if you’re considering one do not let those fuckers lie to you, it might be really bad (or it might not)! And if you get one and it’s awful and they’re rude about it, know that’s about them and you’re reacting just fine.
