THE BRILLIANCE OF A SO-CALLED... "INDUSTRY PLANT?" or also known as..
This thread is aiming to unravel the confusing and sometimes awkward conversation about Don Toliver's "talent". I am not bashing him. I'm simply trying to understand the discourse, while also providing others with understanding about him and his music.
"Who is Don Toliver?" Don Toliver is a rapper, singer, and songwriter from Houston, Texas. He started to gain attention when he dropped his collab mixtape "Playa Familia" with Yungjosh93 in 2017. He also released two solo singles "Diva" and "I Gotta". ----
which led to massive success and got him signed to Atlantic Records and We Run It Entertainment. He later went on to release his first major label debut mixtape, "Donny Womack". This mixtape gained attention various social media platforms and got him bigger than ever.
No Idea" is what really made everyone start checking for him. The challenges were going crazy, everyone was looking for Don Toliver and his music. The public got extremely surprised at his Travis Scott co-sign and immediately started predicting his success. Guess they were right
What is an "Industry plant"? According to the Urban Dictionary, "The common definition of an industry plant is an artist who has a Major/Indie Label backing their movement but presents themselves as a “home grown start up” label to create a pseudo organic following." ---
How does any of that apply to Don Toliver? I truly don't know. I honestly thought that Don Toliver was a home grown artist. The conversation of him being an "Industry plant" never crossed my mind. Although, if you do look at his growth over the years, it would have you thinking.
How did Don Toliver grow so fast between the years of 2017 and 2018? It's honestly an extremely valid question that I can't quite wrap around my head. I've been a fan of him since the "Donny Womack" era. I never actually ventured into his old music but when I did, i wasn't amused
The change in his sound was alarmingly RAPID. I almost couldn't believe it. It's like one day we didn't know him, then suddenly we did? On the other hand, scenarios like this can happen...but are rare.
This could be a good reason to think Don is an Industry plant. The shifts and changes were too swift for us to notice. But lets change the perspective a little bit.
Regardless of whether Don Toliver is an idustry plant or not...HE MAKES GOOD MUSIC🤷🏿‍♀️🤣 That is something in which you CAN'T deny. He's a great feature artist, always bodies his tracks, and never really had a bad song.
Don Toliver is extremely consistent in whatever he does. That's a fact. If not, he wouldn't be here in the industry in the first place. I think people forget that to even get recognized, you have to some some form of potential and talent. I'd like to think that Don has both. 🤷🏿‍♀️
The conclusion is: Don Toliver just may be an Industry plant, but he's the best one so far. He makes great music. Consistently is constantly shown. His performances are great and fun. He proves himself every time he puts anything out. Him always being supported and pushed by a---
--major label shouldn't take away from the quality of his music and his creativity. The argument of him being an Industry plant is just...not productive. At all. Although, you shouldn't take my word for it. Come to your own conclusions. 🤷🏿‍♀️
