A random assortment of tips and things about parenthood.

A thread.
Two toys which have a child has grown tired of can sometimes be combined together into a new fascinating toy.

e.g. Teething ring and a stuffed gorilla. Now it's a gorilla with a teething ring hula hoop.
I know of no better way to wake up a child from a nap than laying down for a nap yourself.

30 seconds after hitting the pillow "Daddy!"
When they're babies, one day they'll get just big enough that you need to think about how you lift them out of the crib.

My advice: as you bend down to pick them up, look up at the ceiling. Your back will form an arch.

You will thank me for this later.
The correct answer of how many stories is enough stories is:
- never zero
- almost never as many as they want
- somewhere in between the above

It also changes night to night.
If you need to entertain a group of kids aged 3-5 in a larger space e.g. outside etc the "everyone run and touch the nearest tree/bench/parent etc" is phenomenal!

I've kept 6 kids occupied with this for 30 minutes easy.
Parenting is this amazing combination of having a strict routine while also being creative.

I mentioned this to a friend and wondered out loud "What if parents have trouble with that?"

His answer "I bet they find parenting very challenging."
Flying with a 6 month old is easy b/c they just sleep the whole time.

Fly with an 18 month old is not too bad as they are old enough to play with toys, look at pictures or watch a show.

Flying with a one year old is the worst.
Going on a long flight?

Go to the dollar store and fill a bag with 20 small toys/puzzles etc.

Every hour, whip out a new item from the bag for them to play with. This will keep them occupied till they fall asleep.
An old iPad plus #VLC (or @netflix + downloaded shows) is a life saver on long trips (flight or road).
I always thought my parents were born super disciplined people b/c they would wake up early, feed us then immediately clean everything.

I realize now as a parent, that is the only way to fend off the chaos so if you are not disciplined, you better get there fast.
You can always who bought the diaper bag.

Women: flower print, quilted bag, soft, over the shoulder

Men: looks like something a combat medic might carry in Afghanistan
Use WD-40 on the door hinges of your kids bedrooms.

Makes sneaking out without waking them much easier.
Humidifiers in your kid’s rooms are a great idea when they have a cold.

Just an FYI that humidified in a close room can set off a smoke alarm (water vapor trips the sensor)
