So in preparation for this talk, I was re-reading @margalitfox& #39;s fabulous book on Alice Kober and the decipherment of Linear B, and I realized that the great AK spent some time in Boulder, Colorado! 1/6 https://twitter.com/DimitriNakassis/status/1374023154046169090">https://twitter.com/DimitriNa...
She wrote this letter (housed in the @PASParchives) to John Franklin Daniel from the Albany Hotel on 13th and Walnut on July 20, 1946; "I& #39;m taking a long vacation with some friends - we& #39;re driving west and then to Mexico." 2/6 https://repositories.lib.utexas.edu/bitstream/handle/2152/16858/AEKtoJFD19460720.pdf?sequence=2&isAllowed=y">https://repositories.lib.utexas.edu/bitstream...
Here& #39;s the hotel in 1941; it and other photos can be found on the website of the @boulderlibrary ( https://localhistory.boulderlibrary.org/islandora/object/islandora%3A63493?solr_nav%5Bid%5D=f9a68f751c7d5bd3b229&solr_nav%5Bpage%5D=0&solr_nav%5Boffset%5D=1&solr_nav%5Bquery%5D=%20)">https://localhistory.boulderlibrary.org/islandora... 3/6
The hotel& #39;s structure was originally built in 1906 as the local @ymca, and sold to R.J. Bush in 1926, who converted it into a hotel. It was demolished in the 1960s to make way for a parking lot for the National State Bank, which is around the corner on Pearl Street 4/6
That bank was built in 1899 in the Renaissance Revival style and was the first permanent bank structure in the city. Now it& #39;s a @WellsFargo: https://www.flickr.com/photos/wallyg/4931059086">https://www.flickr.com/photos/wa... 5/6
Sadly, the plot where the Albany Hotel used to be located is still a parking lot, one of the very few (maybe the only?) in the historic downtown core of Boulder: https://goo.gl/maps/4kFy8u384fyW5q8G9">https://goo.gl/maps/4kFy... 6/6
