Maharashtra and especially the Mumbai Metropolitan Region is now officially beyond redemption. Every single hospital bed you can think of is either already full, or there’s a COVID positive patient waiting for it in line already. And calling it a second wave doesn’t do justice.
We have patients less than 40 years of age, with just 4-5 days of symptoms coming in with breathlessness and oxygen levels dipping below 80%. And don’t even get me started on their CT scans: the lungs are done for. It’s just a matter of time...
Just a matter of time before they need either NIV or invasive ventilation. And deaths are occurring within 24-48 hours. No mercy. This mutant B1.617, if that’s what we are actually dealing with is extremely bad. And is sparing nobody.
This tweet obviously acknowledges privilege, but if you can, you absolutely MUST stay home. Don’t take a chance thinking this won’t affect you. Among the last 5 death certificates I’ve had to write in the ICU, 3 have been under 40 and COVID +.
If you’re in Mumbai, and positive and your oxygen levels are dipping, try to get to a hospital bed ASAP. If you’re outside Mumbai, and aren’t affected yet, this is the time to stay put. Those who have a choice, just stay away from everybody.
It’s worse than last year. After the initial shock, we felt like we could deal with this. We had tools in our arsenal. This year i feel like we are back at the drawing board against the next Boss level. #COVID19India
