A thread on NFTs and typefaces.

Typefaces are in a weird spot in the world. They're expensive and there's no way to prove that you've bought the font. So many smaller websites pirate fonts.
NFTs could solve this by monetizing fonts. NFTs right now are forever, but what if they had expiration date and you made it a way to monetize fonts?

Fonts are licenses. Licenses are a digital identifier, so an NFT. You could monetize way easier if it was an NFT.
You could even earn profits when the licenses are traded. I think this just makes sense.

Designer could also show on their website that they've *actually* bought the typeface. Most designer don't buy them. A font family for $5000? A bit too much for a student designer.
You could create 1:1 typefaces, or limited amount of licenses to drive up the price.

Right now, every license is the same price. But typefaces are scarce resources - they're wanted by the best. Why not make them a bit more scarce?
And when you do have a license, you can use it anywhere without having to worry about these weird limitations that exists right now on licenses.

They're there because the industry has not managed to find a good way to monetize because people pirate all the typefaces.
