I’ve never understood why most humans seem to have this inherent belief that we have the cognitive ability to grasp whatever created us (if anything intelligent did). It just seems so unlikely.
We can look at an ant and go ‘that ant could not possibly process the complexity of human consciousness.’ We look at a smart phone or other things we’ve created and assume the same. But we rarely, if ever, talk about the consciousnesses we may just be unable to process.
The fiction book ‘sphere’ by Michael Crichton was a good exploration of this. Humans encountered an alien object and the consciousness of it was just unprocessable by them. That makes total sense to me. Why would we not assume that our brains have massive limits?
