Virtual #ISA2021 @isanet is over. Some thoughts (a short and personal thread 🧵 ):

- Virtual conferences are nothing like in-person conferences. Friendly interactions are what makes these conferences great.
- It was still better than nothing. Above anything else, it was good to see friends again, albeit on screen.
- I agree with Eytan Gilboa that @isanet should continue as hybrid to make room for those attendees who cannot travel to North America for ISAs. (globalizing international studies any time soon?? cc: @AmitavAcharya)
- I should never again commit to five panels (four papers/ one chair) again. Roundtables and chairing/ discussing are fine to some extent, but paper panels are exhausting and it is difficult to complete them in time anyways.
- Working in the an Executive Committe of @ISAICOMM was a great experience. Looking forward to act as Vice Program Chair for next year’s ISA, together with @shawnpowers @GJakli @lisas_research @agzocar Susan Jackson and others. Many thanks to past Chair @efesevin for his work.
- I was psychologically ready for the jet lag without traveling (conference was in US Eastern time zone). But my mind and body couldn’t adapt as well. It was extremely difficult to participate in the panels and concentrate.
- I barely participated in my own panels and @ISAICOMM business meeting. I had to skip all other great panels. Looking forward to watching some great (recorded) panels, beginning with pre-ISA debate between @Ilan_Manor and @phil_arceneaux co-organized by @ICA_PD @ISAICOMM.
- Looking forward to meeting everyone in person in Nashville next year. @isanet @isanet @isadiplomacy
