We should want adjuncts to get paid more than TT/tenured faculty.
A fair few comments on this come from TT/tenured folks saying the MLA recommends adjuncts would get paid more per course than them. Yes. Compensation for no stability/benefits.

If guidelines like this were ever observed, you'd incentivize permanent, contracted, stable positions *as the baseline.*
In other words, universities would save money by providing stable, benefitted jobs.

Folks have internalized that if you have a permanent position you should be paid more.
But, while that's often the reality, it's a mistake. Instead, start from the idea that work, contingent or permanent, is equally valuable. Then, look at how to incentivize healthier hiring +

P.s. And yes, I know no school ever pays this much.
But reactions to the idea show, on top of everything else, that to fix academic hiring we're going to have to (1) firmly commit to solidarity with contingent labour and (2) think about system-wide fixes, not case-by-case
