We should want adjuncts to get paid more than TT/tenured faculty.
A fair few comments on this come from TT/tenured folks saying the MLA recommends adjuncts would get paid more per course than them. Yes. Compensation for no stability/benefits.

If guidelines like this were ever observed, you& #39;d incentivize permanent, contracted, stable positions *as the baseline.*
In other words, universities would save money by providing stable, benefitted jobs.

Folks have internalized that if you have a permanent position you should be paid more.
But, while that& #39;s often the reality, it& #39;s a mistake. Instead, start from the idea that work, contingent or permanent, is equally valuable. Then, look at how to incentivize healthier hiring +

P.s. And yes, I know no school ever pays this much.
But reactions to the idea show, on top of everything else, that to fix academic hiring we& #39;re going to have to (1) firmly commit to solidarity with contingent labour and (2) think about system-wide fixes, not case-by-case
