Diverse Harappan funeral customs as compiled by JP Joshi. He reports brick tumulus of kurgan burials from Harappa and Daimabad sites of Sarasvati-Sindhu civilization. Such kurgan burials are also found in Dholavira dating to mature Harappan phase.
The burials at Dholavira with stones and slabs also reminds us of later megalithic burials reported all over India, as noted by excavator RS Bisht.
Taken all in account, Harappans had pretty diverse funeral customs, which could reflect diversity in their religious and cultural ideologies. It was the largest civilization on the planet after all, having more area & population than Egypt and Mesopotamia combined.
