Unreliable Narration

The different circumstances surrounding Rosa’s Character, and clever tricks used through convey the message of Umineko.

Umineko as a whole has been emitting signals of the narrator’s unreliability since the start. There has been intratextual contradictory signs within the text, particularly in the gaps of memory or time or mishandling of information.
Taking into account also extratextual signs such as contradicting the reader’s general world knowledge, and the reader’s literary competence and his knowledge about literary types and its conventions for creating a certain narrative bubble.
A big portion of Alliance’s events was actually cleverly written from various points of view, however people like to summarize it as “Bad Pacing”. We were able to see Maria's situation from Her diary, Tohya’s Forgery, and the daycare lady report, and ofc Ange’s POV.
99% of readers would accuse Rosa of being an abuser, when in reality she isn’t. She is only seen hitting Maria during the first 2 episodes, which had an unreliable narration by Yasu. Yasu thought that Maria was being physically abused because of a certain uncertain incident.
Yasu used the day care report and rosa’s manipulation of children custody in order to justify killing rosa for Maria, and the portion of Rosa’s trip in hokkaido actually cannot be known or divulged to anyone, not even tohya, how would he write about that? its clearly unreliable
It was just an exaggerated version of the theory the society accepted, that Rosa is a serial cheater & child neglected, when in reality the location on the receipt “Atami” didn’t match the one receptionist mentioned on the phone “Hokkaido” or the siblings’s meeting place “Ginza”
In fact, rosa made careful reminders about which days to take maria to amusement parks and remembered her birthdays & toys. It's actually illogical for Rosa to have free time for boyfriends, since she had a 9 years old debt, no support from kinzo, and lived in a rented apartment
If it was her house it would have been already taken for her debt. No one knew about Rosa’s company as stated by Ange, he's had to take every small job to get by, & even had to sew some dolls herself, why would she instruct her daughter on home rules if she didn't care for her?
What are you saying man? Rosa did abuse her child and you know it? well sorry to break the social media bubble but it was never a fact that she actually did it, even at her lowest point she broke maria’s toys instead of hitting her, and that's because she was-
trying to change Maria's speech to prevent her from being attacked and bullied in class. Maria’s diary may contain the only real account of rosa, where she has been portrayed to be crying from overwork and dept, and many other happy truths about her.
“Maria is a child, she could have omitted the bad parts intentionally” but logically why would anyone lie in his own diary? There is no reason for Maria to lie to herself or her diary. even Ange tried to understand the gaps in her writing in her own negative subjective way.
It comes to my surprise that people take everything Rosa says or writes about her as granted, when it's clear that most of the time umineko is made up of situations about characters with no real evidence, hence why we are presented with different info sources in alliance.
Rosa does not hate Maria, and did not abuse her, or to be more specific there is no real proof of her abuse. Even if we take verbal abuse into consideration rosa was never one to insult her daughter impulsively for fun.
We are directly challenged in Alliance to choose where we should get our information from, a magnificent writing technique if i may say. and it leads us to the end question, is rosa an Abuser or not?
Actually labelling rosa as something or the other misses the point entirely? every human person is made of so many complex details & situations, and unless you carefully read and dissects all of their circumstances, -
and look from every angle you are gonna miss the whole picture entirely. Maria doesn’t even exhibit abuse symptoms, or wrote about them. It's just a careful amalgamation of different perspectives on the situation, and most of them are untrue or wrongly communicated.
