Designers who’re interested in code, here’s my recommendations of where to start 🧵.
1. Create your personal website in HTML and CSS

This will teach you the basics of the document layout structure and how to style the site to look like your designs.
2. Introduce JavaScript into that website to create some dynamic or interactive elements

This will teach you the core basics of targeting those document elements and adding interactivity.
3. Find a problem with your day-to-day design workflow, grab the @figmadesign #Scripter plugin by @rsms, build a simple solution to your problem

Think of this as a proof of concept. But it might be good enough as is. You’re now using HTML, CSS and JS + APIs.
4. Take that #Scripter script and evolve it into a full @figmadesign plugin using the plugins API

It’s super powerful and means you can then share your awesome work with the wider community.
5. Now you’re more comfortable with APIs, update your personal website to fetch data from a CMS like @cosmicjs

Now you’re using all the important technologies to be able to make powerful web applications and plugins.
6. At this point you just need to find more problems to solve and get to making

You’re a designer with a superpower. You can design and ship projects entirely alone. You shouldn’t do that forever, but it’s a great feeling.
7. You’ll realise that you understand the limitations of the technologies and how to design for them best now, and your developer colleagues will love you forever (hopefully).
