/ While the water remains cold please be aware of hypothermia, for you and those around you. Every cold water pool is seeing an uptick in cases of swimmers getting too cold and needed help when they get out.
/ The most obvious signs of hypothermia include slurred speech, uncontrollable shivering, loss of coordination and confusion. But you may not obviously experience any of this *while* you are in the water.
/ It helps to also be aware of risk factors and warning signs while you’re in the water. Have you swum in cold water regularly? Are you trying to do a set distance or time in the water? Are you getting “wooden” hands or feet? Are you slowing down or tiring?
/ Please err on the side of caution, especially if you’re unused to cold water or still acclimatising. If the lifeguards have to look after you it means they’re not watching your fellow swimmers.
/ Keep it fun. Keep it safe. If you want to step up time or distance do it gently. Make a conscious effort to listen to your body.
