1)
I see some fans are reacting to the push to eradicate racism and discrimination from football by Rangers on the back of the Slavia Prague incident with Kamara.
There are two things simultaneously at play here.
2)
1:
is the Kamara incident itself, it needs its own space to breathe and that is being looked in to.

2:
on the back of this is a more general push on racism by Rangers in particular, aided by the Scottish press.

Number 1 takes care of itself...
3)
...number 2 is a bit more complicated. Both are connected.

No 2 is causing most of the debate, as far as I can see.

Fans - myself included - are wondering why there is cherry-picking on the more general point, then finding themselves restricted to the Kamara case.
4)
As the racism debate door is opened, the elephant in the room gets the door slammed shut in its face as it tries to squeeze in.

Roughy 3 weeks previous to the Kamara incident (feb 16th 2021) James McClean was targeted yet again and voiced his concerns publicly.
5)
His wife joined in and he was backed by Neil Lennon.
FAI also backed James McClean.

Neil Lennon, manager of Celtic at the time, voiced his concerns (Feb 17th 2021).
Not much of a push as I recall.
6)
Lennon has put up with it for years in Scotland and this McClean incident in February brought the topic out front and centre, again.
As recent as 2018 Lennon stated he called this racism.

UEFA backs Lennon’s view and so does Scottish courts.
7)
My contention, is that as the Kamara incident has widened its scope, it’s restricting voices in Scotland that has been stifled for years.

Neil Lennon and James McClean have had to put up with this for a long time without the same push.
These are substantiated claims.
McClean had it at grounds he played at.

With Tannoy announcer stating ‘racist chanting is affecting the game and will not be tolerated’.
9)
Perhaps forgotten about...
In 2015 McClean was on the receiving end of abuse from another player that meant the abuser served the longest ban in English football for verbal abuse.

Kirk Broadfoot got a 10 game ban.
10)
It was so severe it is believed that a confidentiality agreement was put in place for “fears of a risk to parties involved”.
This is incredible stuff.

This incident wasn’t even going to be reported if it wasn’t for local journalists.
11)
They approached the Football association saying “We tried to push them, even bringing up the point that not revealing the information when they run a prominent Kick it Out anti-racism campaign doesn’t look good.”
12)
Seems to be that some were wanting this hushed up.

How was this reported in Scotland?
13)
Scott McDermott of the Daily Record and Sunday Mail writes a sympathetic piece on Broadfoot.
😳
14)
So what to make of it?

As recent as last week Scott Brown was quizzed on the incident involving Tonev and Shay Logan, yet an extremely high profile incident involving involving Evra and Suarez isn’t posed to Steven Gerrard? https://twitter.com/zeshankenzo/status/1377874207665750016
15)
Are we REALLY fighting racism and discrimination in Scotland?
16)
Or are we picking and choosing depending on what’s on offer?
Why are some very significant cases sanitised and hushed up while others gain traction?
