Like hey people want to be all upset they gave Russell an ugly helmet and one dude who doesn't know me accusing me of ableism for pointing it out but ain't nobody talking about this. So let's fucking do it. Non-disabled folks are gonna get uncomfortable. https://twitter.com/NeolithicSheep/status/1380852670991368194
I thought about turning off replies. Instead I'm gonna set some ground rules.
1) James Buchanan Barnes is a human being, and human beings get human rights including bodily autonomy.
2) Arguments that suggest otherwise, or that suggest taking a limb is appropriate, are fucked up.
3) If you make a fucked up argument that it's OK to use amputation as a punishment, BECAUSE THATS WHAT TAKING SOMEONE'S LIMB AWAY IS, I'm going to tell you you're fucked up.
4) There's gonna be spoilers.
Here is shirtless Bucky. He is your last chance to avoid spoilers.
Look James Buchanan Barnes spent 70+ years as a tool of Hydra with zero choice or autonomy. Wakanda offered him sanctuary and healing. He took them at their word. The last thing Ayo said to him in that flashback scene? "You are free."
It turns out though that they had a different idea of what "free" means when it comes to a disabled dude than anyone else does because when they designed his new prosthetic arm, they designed in a quick release *and didn't tell him about it*. Evidently the Dora Milaje knew tho.
So, yknow, any time they didn't like his behavior, they could come along and rip his arm off.

This dude, who spent 70 years having his autonomy violated, just got it violated AGAIN by people he trusted not to do that.
Let me be crystal fucking clear: there are no circumstances in which it is OK to take someone's prosthetic limb, mobility aid, hearing aid, meds, or other disability treatment away. None. Zero. It is a human rights violation.
SOMEBODY in Wakanda designed Bucky's arm and disseminated the information with that human rights violation in mind. They intended to use it if he upset them. Look what he made them do. It's fucking abuser logic.
And yeah no shit Zemo rabbited. I see a bunch of cops come for me who then demonstrate they think it's fine to amputate someone's limb for irritating them you better believe I'm gonna get the fuck out of there, too.
Bucky just got betrayed and his autonomy and consent violated by people he trusted to mess with his brain. Would he have let them build him a new arm if they'd been up front they wanted to be able to take it back any time they wanted?
He's now gotta be wondering if they installed something similar *in his head*. If they made sure they could remove his arm, what's to say they didn't make sure they could remove the counter programming that lets him be free of being the Winter Soldier?
But sure, go be mad they gave Russell an ugly helmet and squee about how happy you are to see the Dora Milaje again. They ain't the good guys in this. Fuckers.
PS here is your periodic reminder that I am disabled by chronic pain, fatigue, and mental illness. Replies assuming I am not disabled will not be treated kindly. I have fought very very hard to be able to do the things I do, and they HURT.
PPS one disabled person who evidently prefers being a class traitor and playing oppression Olympics to solidarity already tried it so I'll be explicit:
There is no "not that bad". There is no better/worse. It does not matter what part of your body your aid or prosthetic compensates for. To have it ripped away from you is a gross human rights violation on a personal and systemic level.
In my mentions we believe in solidarity. We are here for every. Single. Disabled. Person. All of them, even the ones who look like they're compensating well, even the ones whose disabilities horrify the ableds. We are here in solidarity, not playing fucked up games.
If you got a problem with that then get the fuck out of my mentions and stop following me. Go fix your heart and come back when you understand that throwing other disabled people under the bus won't make the world like you more.
But we're not playing that oppression Olympics bullshit. Not here, not today, not ever. A human rights violation is fucking horror, and ripping someone's limb off is a human rights violation.
Ok muting this thread cause there are people arguing hard that SOMETIMES it's ok to violate someone's body, autonomy, and human rights. Nope, not today Satan. I'm not listening to y'all's abuser bullshit.
